The Bedbug Registry: Forewarned is Forearmed
At a recent gathering of travel writers in Vancouver, the conversation turned to that least glamourous of topics: bedbugs.
Seems every person there had either had a recent run-in with the nasty critters, or knew someone who had.
The stories all shared a thread of anxiety–a lot of people who have had to deal with bedbugs are evidently traumatized by the experience.
Bedbugs bite–sometimes causing acute allergic reactions. And they are resilient. The problem is growing exponentially around the world, since bedbugs can steal across borders in luggage, clothing–even airline seats. They really don’t care that you’re sleeping on 400-thread-count sheets in a five-star hotel: they’re equal-opportunity vermin.
Feeling itchy?
Do yourself a favour and get informed about bedbugs at The Bedbug Registry, an excellent online tool that tracks reports of bedbugs in apartments and hotels across Canada and the United States.
While the registry doesn’t span international properties, it does include helpful resources with tips on how to check for bedbugs, what to do if you find them and how to avoid them in the first place.
